The Importance of Mental Safety in Organizations
In the U.S. in particular there's this idea of the lone hero that that courageous individual that pulls themselves up by their bootstraps and they carry the pressure of that on their own. How do we create conditions for other people around us to be courageous or to be more curious? I was struck when talking with people from Japan in that they talk about how the American culture is about valuing that sole individual whereas the in Japan they value collaboration and connections. There's a lot of things that we really need to rethink in our messaging in our way that we educate and work with people.
