The walker children came over the course of about 12 years, kind of perfectly stair stepped every two years. Because mamma and papa were extraordinarily progressive and free thinking, they named their children some pretty clever names. After putting his carpentr skills to work building a house and barn, Papa's very next task was to build and staff the town's very first schoolhouse. As if he didn't have enough to handle, papa started studying medical books in the evening,. He became so competent and knowledgeable that he began to be relied upon in that capacity within driving distance of town. People called him doctor walker.
