The Buddha's warning to misguided students is the same given by Jack Nicholson in the movie A Few Good Men, You Can't Handle the Truth. The reason they can't handle it is that they expect the wrong thing from the Buddha's teaching. Those teachings, being wrongly grasped by them, can do to their harm and suffering for a long time. What should a good teacher do when confronted with students like these who are not ready to learn? Lying is an option we've already considered and found to be problematic but of course there's another option, remains silent.
