Tiberius' Retirement From Public Life

Tiberius was promoted to a status not unlike that attained by a gripper after Augustus' brush with death in 23 BC. After taking over his brother's command in Germania, he served his consul in 7 BC and was then granted the same power of the tribunate that Augustus enjoyed. With the gripper and dreusus dead, the only man ready to step into power now should Augustus die was Tiberius.
