After World War II there was a quote unquote long divorce between the cultures of mathematicians and physicists. What brought them back together in the early to mid 1970s? The success of field theory, I remember I remember it because I basically was a kid,. It really did seem that quantum field theory was the way ahead. That really started the coming together of physicists and mathematicians which continues to this day.
