Is Fascism Servicing a Useful Purpose?
Some adjectives just have a sort of therapeutic value, they're cathartic. If you get to Calais and somebody starts questioning whether your wife can come into the country because of there's a stamp missing in a passport, it comes out of the subconscious to think he's fascist. So is fascism serving a useful purpose or is its ambiguity now too dangerous? We have got democratic backsliding, Modi, Orban, Putin's, Trump. In that context, how should we feel about the use of that word? It's a powerful word. Does it alert people? Or is it losing its any kind of power because of its reproduction?
