The Splintery Picnic Table

Elizabeth's ongoing conversation with benny feels like dissecting a thermo nuclear bomb. They sit at the splintery wooden picnic table and eat. Jack is more interested by the rocks. He points at them over and over, his insistent finger smeared with peanut butter. Elizabeth observes them from a distance while she eats two sandwiches. Their exploration triggers an exodus of silver fish, swarming and scuttling. The sea stink is joined by something stronger, oilier that crawls into her mouth and nose. A beautiful carcass is strewn over the rocks. She remembers that the baboons were up dated to hunt them.
