The Alligators in Alabama
I used to live in a rural area in Montana, not the south but pretty rural for years. And I thought I understood what it was like to be like the only gay man in town and go into a rough bar with no one else. But the world's changed in those 30 years since I did that. Everyone knew I was gay. Because they met gay people before. So there was no leaning on the bar and saying I'll have the Bud Lightman with a whiskey shot like that. Didn't cover anything because they knew exactly what was going on with me. There were queer people all over. They were out. You know I just hadn't.
