LZ Granderson: It is tragic to see that blacks were for very many decades, making an effort to conform to bourgeois values and whites continued beating them back. LZ: Even worse than slavery in America's history was the daily petty gratuitous cruelty and contempt and just condescension that Americans continued to meet out to blacks subsequent to the eradication of slavery. He says until you still have large behavioral disparities that are within the capacity of families to overcome, it's way premature to say systemic racism is the only allowable explanation.
