J p morgan posted their best earnings from lending in over a decade. Analysts were way to optimistic about how well investment banking would hold up, especially for initial public offerings. For investors will hope that wells fargo and city will be a slightly simpler story.

Italian prime minister Mario Draghi offered to resign, which caused problems for Italian stocks and for the euro. Plus, two of the biggest US banks had worse earnings reports than analysts expected.
