He wore the orange and black ribbon of St George, originally a Tsarist military decoration that was used again in the Second World War. Since 2014, it's been promoted and worn as a symbol of a so-called Russian spring,. The annexation of Crimea and aggression in eastern Ukraine is now a support for today's war.
