Why Did Jesus Mess With Mud?

"As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me," Jesus told a blind man. "He spit on the ground, made some mud with his saliva, and put it on the man's eyes." The Pharisees were divided over whether he was from God or just doing something to atone for sin. He knew that I could heal this man without it with no work, but he knelt down and messed with some mud and stuck it in the guy's eye,. which made them talk about how he had done work on the Sabbath.
