Why Esperanto Has Failed, Is It a Failure?

Esperanto was supposed to be a global second language, the lingua franca. But it has failed in its original purpose of bridging the communication gap and breaking down hostility between all peoples. It makes no sense to go and hang out with a political cult when you should be trying to learn a natural language like English or Spanish.
