People whose goal is to be liked very oten, and this bears out in the literature, very often think they should talk less than half the time. They actually have a name for this: The reticence bias. It's rooted in the fact that people lack confidence in their conversational abilities. But generally speaking, people think that if they listen more than they talk, they're going to be liked more.
