Is David Lynch a Gateway to Surrealism?

David Bianculli: David Lynch is a great gateway to the history, history of the first half of the 20th century of film. He becomes a gateway to surrealism, right? You get to Bonwell and Dolly and Maya Darrin through Lynch or you look at his own list of favorites. When I came to him theatrically, it was Lost Highway. And while I am sure that I had seen Blue Velvet already, because that was one of those movies I watched way too early.
