I think that brains work better when you expose them to unexpected stimuli. I think that scientific creativity is enriched by playing with ideas and concepts. And so we have team meetings where I really probe them for people to get into those spaces. If you don't speak Apple, never have an opportunity to understand whether that idea may go through. So it's something I always push, whether it is with people are my mentors or I'm organizing it with experts. We're here to basically push the limit. So please do not feel embarrassed.

Nora D. Volkow, MD, is Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health.
