The Life of John D Rockefeller
John D. Rockefeller was the largest shareholder of one of the biggest monopolies in American history. The Standard Oil Trust controlled 90% of oil refineries and pipelines in the USA. After decades of court cases, the US Supreme Court ruled that Standard Oil was too big and breaking antitrust or anti-monopoly laws. He retired from the company in the 1890s, and gave away most of his money to charity. For example, he funded the foundation of the University of Chicago.
