The New History of Capitalism

There is a school of thought called the New History of Capitalism. It tries to reinterpret the history of slavery as some sort of a manifestation of loss of fear capitalism, says Julian Zelizer. The idea here is that cotton was such a central component to the antebellum economy that without it America basically never would have industrialized and become an economic power.
