Is China a Net Beneficiary of Global Technology Transfer?
China is still playing catch up with the west on technology, and so it has to import a bunch of things as part of its manufacturing processes. It is also working aggressively to try an assimilate technologies which it sees being used to drive higher productivity in the us, in germany, in japan and elsewhere. So how would you say e chinase faring in its efforts to be more technologically independent? I think the lesson of the last few decades is, yes, they don't always succeed at first, but that doesn't mean they're not going to get there in the end.
