The Creolo and the Peninsulares in Quito

The people of quito considered themselves to be basically their own thing. And they had long enjoyed relative autonomy from the vice regal authorities. Tensions between the peninsulares and the creolo, tensions that had helped incite the rebellion of the barios back in 17 65, had never really gone away. The word creolio has been used as a term of abuse and contempt. But unlike the lapaz revolt, this was an alite creoo affair. This was not about turning the world upside down.
