The CD94 NKG2A receptor interacts with cell damage. This is one of the most ancient HLA, and the receptor is also very ancient. It's been around since the time of dinosaurs because it hasn't changed from mouse to human. If they interact, then they set up NK cells for action. So this is education. However, we people are divided roughly 50-50 in those who can express a lot of HLA-E and those who cannot.
