Mortal sin is something to which we give our will and so give our self. It could be, it could be an interior thing, but it's something to which We Give Our Will. The purpose of an examination of conscience isn't to feel like a waste of space or an utterly uninspired Christian. Although that may be the case, the purpose of which is to grow on friendship with Christ. And part of your communication is apologizing and asking for the resources you need to grow in that relationship.
