The Implications of Speculative Attention Habits
One powerful mental habit is that if you're in some kind of discomfort, either physical or psychological, the urge to take action to change it becomes much stronger. The third reason for willpower seeming like a resource is that one of the regulators of habits is itself a kind of knowledge of time. I don't have an exact picture of how to use this idea yet, but there are a few speculative suggestions for where it might be useful.
