Antibodies and Antigens in the Human Body
The average circulating diversity in your body is about 10 to the 12 different antibodies. If I inject a protein into you, even if it's an antibody, its own antibodies will kill it. So we want to operate within that natural set of antibodies and find ones that will bind specifically to targets of interest. And the really cool thing about antibodies is they are incredibly good at this so you can do it with laboratory experiments. The easiest one to imagine is if I want to make something into a medicine, I've got to keep it in a bottle. It's a bottle in a fridge for an antibody.
