The Death of Orpheus
Orpheus made the long trudge back to the mortal world with Eurydice's shade following silently behind. And then finally he stood before the throne of Hades and Persephone, where he made his request that EurydICE be returned to him. But just as he emerged into the light of day, he could no longer resist and turned back only to see Eurydices' fair face. So this was a well known and popular story that you would have depicted on your dinnerware in Classical Greece. The dismemberment theme is an old one, and the bakkak women may be significant as we shall see.
