The ballet is based on the non musical film by shi jin, which i think is 60, maybe 62. Great chinese film maker shiacin. It does non musical film about the red detachment of women. The actual episode is fictional. But it represents something, i think, that's interesting, very important. Reinforces cultural traditions of patriarchy but also reasserts mainland control over hih non communist movements.
