The Slavery Revolt of the Northern Plains
The leaders of the slave revolt were drawn from the ranks of the elite slaves, primarily drivers and coachmen. On sunday, august fourteenth, leading slaves from practically every parish in the northern plains met at a plantation just five miles from le cap. This meeting was not secret, as large gatherings of rusted slaves were tolerated by the masters as necessary for general morau. But for sure, the masters did not know what the slaves were talking about. The plan was for the slaves out on the plantations and slaves inside le cap to rise up simultaneously, cotton a double eruption,. Free citizens of the colony would have nowhere to turn.
