When there was a high level of clarity of purpose, the teams and the people on it overwhelmingly thrived. The unintended consequence is that non-essentialist managers try to have their teams pursue too many things. An essentialist leader makes a different choice. She is able to apply less but better to everything from talent selection to direction in her organization.
