Bactrum and Breastfeeding
Bactrum should be avoided in women who are breastfeeding newborns less than one month of age or infants who have glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. In a retrospective study of 68 patients all with breast abscesses smoking was a significant risk factor for the development of an abscess. Of these 68 cases over half at 54% needed multiple surgical treatments and 22 of these were heavy smokers.
