The Importance of Long Term Thinking

In our time of climate crisis by diversity loss, social inequality, the need for long term thinking is incredibly urgent. So how do we balance or integrate a sense of urgency and crisis with the need to act on a much longer scale? In a fundamental way, i don't see any tension between the need to urgently in the need to think long term. We are experts at the temporal pirouette. One moment we can be thinking about upgrading a iphone and that the next moment we'll be thinking about what songs we want played at our own funerals.
