I would dismiss pretty much out of hand the kind of the crude atheism that oud associate, you know, with marks or with one version of freud. I don't think freud himself actually held that view in the end. He ended up writing a book moses and monotheism, which can only be understood as a midrach or a homeletic interpretation of the bible. So that was a pretty religious thing to do for someone who would like to depict himself sometimes as an atheist.
