CHAPTER

You Have to Love Yourself First Before Someone Can Love You

I heard it certainly in the past when I've been single that you've got to love yourself first before someone else can love you. And I still don't know if that one's true. So we always talk about this, how the right person doesn't make you fall more in love with them. But I think the problem is saying you have to have it figured out,. We're going to spend our whole lives trying to figure it out and then you'll never be in a relationship.

Yeah. And it's shifting your focus onto, you know, positives, which is never a bad thing in a, like you say, in a more natural way, in a, in a non forced way. What about another cliche phrase we hear a lot in the context of seeking partners or, or wanting to find someone to spend your life with? I heard it certainly in the past when I've been single that you've got to love yourself first before someone else can love you. And I've always thought, do I? Because I don't know if I can do that. And I still don't know if that one's true. What are your thoughts on

that? I, I don't think it's fully true. I think you have to start the journey of self love. But that journey is going to be made better with the right person. Yeah. So we always talk about this, how the right person doesn't make you fall more in love with them. They make you fall more in love with yourself. But I think the problem is saying you have to have it figured out, we're going to spend our whole lives trying to figure it out. And then you'll never be in a relationship. But the opposite is also true that a lot of people don't do any of the figuring out. And then we meet someone and then we outsource it onto them and say, all right, you're going to be my self esteem. You're going to be my self confidence. And as long as you love me, then I'm going to feel good. So I think we, as humans, we, we are human psychology is wide around either I'm going to do all myself, and it's all up to me, or it's all up to you. And actually the truth's in the middle of, I need to start the journey. And I feel like that I started the journey when I lived as a monk to have three years of time to just focus on yourself. We didn't have any concept of time in the monastery. Like there's no such thing as, by this age, you got to be this kind of monk, by this age, you're going to be this kind of monk. Like in society, it's like by this age, you have to be living this life by this age, you should be mad at this age, you should be kids. You lose your concept of time because you actually are just working inward and inward. There's no time. It's just healing. And then at the same time, we didn't have any mirrors in the monastery. So you lose a sense of how you look, you lose a sense of self, so you can go inward. Now, I'm not saying everyone has to become monks. And that's definitely not what I'm proposing. But I'm saying that finding time to find yourself is going to help the journey. It's not that you're going to find yourself first fully. And you're going to say, all right, I know exactly who I am. That's just not going to happen.
