The goddess eris strife or discord throws a golden apple, on which are inscribed the words ter caliste, for the most beautiful woman. She tosses it amongst the goddesses at the wedding of thetis and pellias, parents of achilles. The fact that she's married doesn't seem to enter aphrodite is equation at all.
