The Bronze Age palace at Knosos was destroyed several times by earthquakes but each time they build it back often better and more elaborate than before. It could be that the people who lived around Knosos were fed up of being taxed by the palace and so burned the palace down themselves. The eruption of the volcano theta was clearly a traumatic event but it happened 300 years before the palace at knosos was finally destroyed. I like the idea that there was some sort of internal revolt because after all once the palace is destroyed people go back to the hillside with their own settlements.
