The Social Consequences of the Pill
For the first time in the history of the world, reliably separating sex and reproduction has had some pretty massive effects. The social institutions that used to exist to regulate fertility have all fallen away as a result of the pill's introduction. You introduce technology, which allows women to regulate their fertility, and it leads to a rise of single motherhood. It shouldn't surprise us that single mothers are some of the people most likely to be in poverty while married mothers are least likely to be.
