The State of Women's Rights in Spain During the Second Republic
Before the Second Republic, Spain was an overwhelmingly agrarian country with incredibly high rates of illiteracy. It's only in 1909 that women are able to sort of, it becomes mandatory for women to go to primary school up until the age of 12. So within this context, it's a very traditional society, particularly in sort of rural areas where the state of gender relations is very traditional. But yes, you have these in this very short window of time, huge gains are made in terms of women's rights.
