The Importance of Collaboration in Music
Before Hot Chip I was doing some songwriting on my own and playing the occasional London acoustic guitar and vocal or keyboard and vocal solo gigs. When I then did, I guess we were like three Hot Chip albums in, I then wanted to do some solo music again. It didn't feel like it was a new idea. It felt like going back to something that I used to do. So for that record rubbed out, I wanted to let songs be sometimes instrumental, sometimes improvised pieces of music,. Sometimes quite short songs that didn't have a verse, chorus, bridge, structure to them.
