The Evolution of Ostrich Eggs in the Mediterranean World

Tamar Hodos is a professor of Mediterranean archaeology at the University of Bristol. She says ostrich eggs were decorated from 60,000 years BCE in South Africa. But they returned into vessels, drinking vessels and pouring shapes during the Bronze Age. In Mesopotamia we see them embellished with precious metals and lapis lazuli - these were real luxury items.
