I think if you're driven to study philosophy, then you just go all in. Why would a free person shy away from doing something that really interests them that they're really passionate about? I don't think that's any way to live. What is the best compliment that you have ever received? The best compliment is someone that you really respect, complimenting the thing you care about most.
