The Food Crisis in the Jungle
Food was always the biggest problem. Providing over 900 settlers with three nourishing meals a day was prohibitive. Everyone wanted meat. Jones calculated that serving chicken or pork at a single jonestown dinner cost two thousand dollars. The old communal fall backs of peanut butter sandwiches and oatmeal that worked back in the states weren't sufficient in the jungle.
