Adolescence is a remarkable developmental period for the brain. Brain regions involved in reward sensitivity and social sensitivity are activate, suggesting that it really does bring them joy to engage in this type of activity. Teenage men have led some of the biggest social movements of our time - from climate change to black lives matter. And they're not doing this just till i get into college, for example. But there's research showing that these brain regions involved in rewarding activities such as raising your hand in class or asking out on a date can be very beneficial during adolescence.
