Peer Review of Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trials

There is often a good explanation known by at least some members of the medical community, even if it is not being published. One reason for this is that doctors are very busy people and getting around to going through the peer review process is rather more difficult than word of mouth. Peer review of double blind placebo-controlled trials is indeed a supposed gold standard of a kind, but it is also the most lengthy and difficult way of showing the efficacy of what might already be known as an effective treatment.
