The reformation is where it sort of starts. Christmas was seen as a superstitious, popeish, satanic festival that was just like a relic of an ancient time. The real crackdown came a bit later in a sort of Cromwell period when it was actually banned. Some people would make a big point of keeping their shops open on Christmas day for example. They're taking like a moral stand against Christmas. Yeah.
