The Problem With Socrates's First Speech
A definition can just be establishing what that vague understanding is before we proceed so we know what we're assuming. But these complementary procedures are at the heart of dialectic, which I take it for Socrates is the most fabulous thing in the whole universe in this dialogue. And actually, if you look at Socrates's two speeches, my own opinion actually is that they're not separate speeches. They're actually two halves of a common speech.
