The Race to Crack the Genetic Code

Watson and Crick got a letter from George Gamoff saying he had cracked the genetic code. It set up a challenge for scientists, which was how can you crack it? There's no evidence that Watson and Crick thought they could solve it. The race really happened once the code had been cracked - there was a huge surge of people trying to find out what makes life tick.
