The british were, to a large extent, responsible for creating a version of india that we continue to inhabit largely. And so as you mentioned, monosmithy and the cast system, they found, in a certain version of caste hinduism, very fertile ground for their repression. So what they were able to do is cater to our worst instincts because that's what served their best interests. They said to us, you know, people are different from one another.
