The Locofocos: A Radical Anti-Monopoly Party

When Legit got excommunicated from the party, it was fall of 1835. There were a slate of nominating conventions coming up in preparation for actual elections next year. The plan was that all of the Laguerreans who identified with William Legit and his brand of radical anti-monopoly would storm Tammany Hall to take over their convention. So why they call the Locofocos? Where does that come from? It's a crazy name too.
