The Economist's David Renney explains what prompted last weekend's protests in China. He says there is a real frustration about the lockdowns and controls of zero-covid. A specific incident wasn't there that seemed to kick this whole thing off, he adds. But for so many Chinese, the idea of being trapped inside a burning building by locked fire escapes really resonates because people have been locked into buildings or seen fences kind of close them in.
