How to Learn From Rare Things

You need to be mentally simulating things, especially rare things, in order to learn from them without having to actually see them. Actual clinical exposure doesn't come along often enough for you to learn when they actually happen. That's the only way to really be excellent. If you're just sitting there passively like a lump waiting for you to be dipped in hot water and gradually soak up the flavors of what's around you, it's not enough. You need to use your own brain to think through what you're going to do and what it's going to look like.
