The first professional clay I did was the head of the drama department at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, otherwise known as NIDA. Everyone went there that you'd had ever heard of, like Mel Gibson and Judy Davis and Sam Neil - so it was like the thing to do. And when I was offered to leave and go and work in the real world, which is ultimately the aim, they were so unsupportive. "I really struggled with the idea of leaving because they make you feel like you won't survive without them"
